Shawn Emanuel is fighting the corner of UK R&B and at 21-years-old has gone from obscurity to gaining notoriety as a future British hopeful.

His debut release entitled 'Slow It Down' showcases Emanuel's talent. Avoiding the generic sound of American R&B acts, Emanuel soulfully belts out a British accent. Sung over a Neptunes-esque guitar intro the tune breaks into warped synth beats, which to the lesser ear could be attributed to Basement Jaxx. Production blends intro and breaks to perfection.

The Mikey J Remix adds a cacophony of tingling high-hats and soulful high-pitched elements to tease the ears, with sub-shaking bass splitting through the track converting soul into dance. Ghetto's Grime style lyrics tear over the beats at the midway to great effect.

X-press 2 hold down production duties on the final remixes, taking the original into new territory. The Rave & Beep Remix contains deep bassline filters leaving Mr.Oizo feeling his synths were timid in comparison. The Rave & Beep Dub takes the dance element and, true to title, turns it into a genre-spliced rave track with samples hitting every bar of the track.

This single takes listeners on a journey. Soul merges to dance as effortlessly as Shawn Emanuel entices the listener with his smooth vocals. The final verdict? Go and buy it.
