Wow, none of my interviewees have asked me that before! I am fine, thank you. So, I heard you left Universal for indie label Dekkor Records. I suppose sleazy men in suits pushing for that second album got a little too much to stomach?

Nah, just needed to do me really. It was a mutual thing as we both understood that the journey for us had ended there.

Your new album is called 'I Am'. It's good to have a clear sense of the self, I reckon. How would you respond to the following:

I am ..alive and alert................ first thing in the morning.

I am .....particular.............. when I go grocery shopping.

Interesting. Ok, how about these then:

I am ....supportive.................to my ex-boyfriend.

I am ....on a high.................when I perform my music to others.

Are you the UK's hottest soul singer (don't worry about modesty, that's not what we're about)?

Nah, I don't think so. I think Mica Paris is! She is amazing.

Your first album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. How did that feel?

Crazy, it was my first ever solo album and I just felt priviledged to be in the same category as some of the other people nominated, like Coldplay, Floetry, Radiohead,etc. Bands that are so successful and accomplished! Definitely a rush to the head.
