The Internet and clubbing world are evolving. Gone are the days when one night out was the highlight of one's week. The new 21st Century 18-30's live for the weekend. But the fun doesn't solely lie in the 'going out' part, as the growth of online communication amongst young people has caused a considerable shift in their social interaction.
As a result, clubbing sites have grown online massively, drawing in thousands for their sense of community that exists on them. A sense that after the night is over, people can discuss their evening and weekends with fellow ravers and plan ahead for their next one. Pre meet-ups can be arranged and on most sites you can send a personal message to one or a set number of people. This enables greater communication at faster rates then mobiles and telephone communication.
Back in my parents' day in the 1970's, the raving world and the community didn't even exist. It was mostly clubs until 2am and then stumble home. Now clubs are open until 6am in the morning plus after parties (if you can handle the pace). Otherwise it's The Tube home and sleep on a Saturday - that becomes the norm for many ravers. The harder beats and the clubbing scene itself is so broad, being filled with a diverse mixture of people. All the sites integrate people from all over the U.K in such a way that friends exist all over the country.
Clubbing and the Internet are interconnected, with both being part of the new lifestyle that is taking shape. Films such as Kevin and Perry Go Large, which are largely comical and laugh at the ravers and DJs, hardly show the reality of the scene. The use of the Internet is helping the scene grow rapidly. The users help each other to get to events and within this sphere a new sense of community - one that many would not understand unless they are directly part of it.
The 21st Century has brought many changes to our culture. However, it is the young people today who carry the future. Their lifestyles will change and help to form future generation's way of life. The 'Rave' and to go to a rave in 'cyber' denote the need to be unique and to show that you are part of one of these vastly expanding online communities which in today's age help many feel they are part of a wider sphere, one that they cannot find in their daily lives - the spirit of belonging.
